SDIS401 Infrared Sulfur Analyzer

The SDIS401 Infrared Sulfur Analyzer is designed for the rapid and reliable determination of total sulfur in coal, coke, petroleum products, combustion residues, cement, rubber, building materials, soil, and other solid or liquid materials.

The instrument uses high-temperature combustion combined with infrared absorption detection. During analysis, the sample is completely combusted in an oxygen-rich atmosphere at temperatures of up to 1350°C. The sulfur contained in the sample is converted into sulfur dioxide, purified through a multi-stage filtration and drying system, and then measured by a high-stability infrared detector.

With a measuring range of 0.01% to 50% sulfur and an analysis time of no more than 120 seconds per sample, the SDIS401 offers an effective balance of analytical performance, operational simplicity, system reliability, and cost efficiency.

Its straightforward manual sample introduction eliminates complicated mechanical feeding mechanisms, making routine operation and maintenance easier. The instrument can also be integrated with the SDCHN636 Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen Analyzer to provide a combined solution for the determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur.

Key Features

Fast and Simple Sample Introduction

The rapid manual sample-loading design provides straightforward operation without complicated mechanical movements. Samples can be introduced quickly and reliably, reducing operational complexity and routine maintenance requirements.

Complete Combustion for Reliable Sulfur Recovery

The specially designed high-temperature combustion tube incorporates a recirculation chamber for secondary combustion. This helps ensure complete oxidation of the sample and reliable conversion of sulfur compounds into sulfur dioxide.

Stable and Accurate Infrared Detection

The ultra-low-drift infrared detection cell provides a stable analytical baseline. Under stable operating conditions, only one drift correction per working day is normally required, simplifying daily quality control while maintaining reliable results.

Efficient Gas Purification

A multi-stage filtration and drying system removes dust and moisture from the combustion gas before it enters the infrared detector. This protects the detector, minimizes contamination, and improves long-term analytical stability.

Patented Combustion Gas Curtain Design

The patented combustion-supporting gas curtain promotes complete sample combustion while preventing combustion gases from escaping through the furnace opening. This improves operational safety and helps maintain a cleaner laboratory environment.

Stable, Low-Dead-Volume Gas Path

The optimized gas-flow system is designed to minimize the influence of temperature changes on gas flow. Its compact and shortened flow path provides low dead volume, reduced sample carryover, and a stable infrared detector baseline.

Durable and Maintenance-Friendly Furnace

The patented furnace structure helps extend the service life of the combustion tube and furnace-port O-rings. Key consumable components are easily accessible and convenient to replace, reducing downtime and maintenance effort.

Optional Touchscreen Operation

The instrument can be equipped with a high-performance touchscreen tablet and an adjustable rotating support arm. The screen can be extended, folded, and repositioned to suit different operating positions and laboratory layouts.

Flexible CHNS Analysis Solution

The SDIS401 can operate as an independent sulfur analyzer or work together with the SDCHN636 Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen Analyzer, providing a cost-effective integrated solution for C, H, N, and S elemental analysis.

FAQs

The SDIS401 is designed for the determination of total sulfur in coal, coke, coal-water slurry, petroleum products, combustion residues, cement, rubber, building materials, soil, and other solid or liquid materials.

The analyzer uses high-temperature combustion followed by infrared absorption detection. Sulfur in the sample is converted into sulfur dioxide, which is then measured by an infrared detector.

The sulfur measurement range is from 0.01% to 50%.

The analysis time for a single sample is no more than 120 seconds.

The supported sample weight range is 100 to 300 mg. A sample weight of approximately 100 mg is recommended for routine analysis.

A larger sample weight may be used for samples with poor representativeness or samples that are difficult to combust. For difficult-to-burn coal samples, the manual recommends using up to 300 mg.

The combustion furnace operates between 1250°C and 1350°C. The recommended operating temperature is 1350°C.

The instrument requires bottled oxygen with a purity of at least 99.5%. Oxygen with a purity of 99.99% is recommended.

No. Electrolytic oxygen must not be used with the analyzer.

The analyzer uses a high-temperature combustion tube with a recirculation chamber. The combustion gases undergo secondary combustion to improve the complete oxidation of the sample.

The gas passes through a multi-stage filtration and drying system before entering the infrared detector. The system removes dust and moisture to protect the detector and improve analytical stability.

Under stable operating conditions, one drift correction per working day is normally sufficient. Drift correction should also be performed when the accuracy check using a certified reference material is unsatisfactory.

Yes. Blank analyses should be performed every day before routine sample analysis. The manual recommends conducting at least three to five blank analyses until the system reaches a stable condition.

The instrument should normally be connected, heated, and stabilized for approximately two hours before blank and sample analyses are performed.

Yes. The software supports connection to a compatible electronic balance with a readability of 0.0001 g. Sample weights can be transferred to the software through the balance communication interface.

Yes. The SDIS401 can be used independently for sulfur determination or integrated with a compatible Sundy carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen analyzer to provide combined C, H, N, and S analysis.

The recommended ambient temperature is 15°C to 30°C, with relative humidity not exceeding 85%. The laboratory should be clean and free from dust, vibration, strong airflow, interference sources, and corrosive gases.

The standard power requirement specified in the manual is 220 VAC ±10%, 50 Hz ±1%, with reliable protective grounding.

The magnesium perchlorate and quartz wool in the drying tube should generally be replaced after approximately 600 samples. They should also be replaced earlier if the drying material shows significant deterioration or blockage.

Possible causes include inaccurate weighing, insufficient furnace stabilization, failure to perform blank analysis or drift correction, gas leakage or blockage, incorrect oxygen pressure or purity, incomplete sample combustion, detector or gas-path contamination, and overdue replacement of drying or filtering materials.
