SDELC100 Limestone Multi-Parameter Analyzer

The SDELC100 Limestone Multi-Parameter Analyzer is an automated thermogravimetric analysis system designed for the rapid determination of multiple quality parameters in limestone. By continuously monitoring sample mass changes under controlled temperature and atmosphere conditions, the instrument generates time–temperature–mass curves and automatically calculates moisture, calcium oxide (CaO), magnesium oxide (MgO), and loss on ignition (LOI).

The analyzer accommodates up to 12 samples and automatically performs sample loading, weighing, analysis, and unloading. Its dual-furnace configuration enables alternating operation for higher throughput, while samples can be added or replaced during an ongoing test. In addition to limestone analysis, the system can also be used for rapid determination of moisture, ash, and volatile matter in coal.

Key Features

Multi-Parameter Analysis in One Instrument

Determines multiple limestone quality parameters, including:

  • Moisture
  • Calcium oxide, CaO
  • Magnesium oxide, MgO
  • Loss on ignition, LOI

The analyzer can also perform rapid moisture, ash, and volatile matter analysis for coal samples.

High Level of Automation

After up to 12 prepared samples are loaded, the instrument automatically completes:

  • Sample transfer
  • Weighing
  • Heating and analysis
  • Result calculation
  • Sample unloading

The entire analytical process can run unattended.

Dual-Furnace Design for Higher Throughput

Two furnaces operate alternately to reduce waiting time and improve laboratory efficiency. Samples may also be added or replaced while the instrument is operating, supporting more flexible sample workflows.

Reagent-Free and Easy to Operate

The analytical process requires no chemical reagents and generally requires minimal sample preparation. Once the powdered sample has been weighed, the operator can start the test with a single command, reducing operating complexity and routine analysis costs.

More Application-Relevant CaO Determination

The instrument determines CaO based on the release of CO₂ during CaCO₃ decomposition. This approach reduces interference from calcium present in other chemical forms and provides results that are more directly relevant to limestone desulfurization performance than conventional titration or X-ray fluorescence methods.

Accurate and Traceable Results

Real-time recording of sample mass, furnace temperature, atmosphere, and test duration provides a complete analytical curve and improves the traceability of test results.

FAQs

Limestone is a key raw material used in flue gas desulfurization at power plants. Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) produced during coal combustion is an acidic and toxic gas that must be removed before the flue gas can be discharged. Limestone, whose main component is calcium carbonate, is one of the most economical and widely used desulfurization reagents. Determining the effective components in limestone, such as calcium oxide and magnesium oxide, is directly related to desulfurization efficiency, limestone consumption control, and compliance with environmental emission requirements.

The analyzer can determine moisture, calcium oxide (CaO), magnesium oxide (MgO), and loss on ignition (LOI) in limestone. These parameters directly affect limestone consumption and desulfurization performance and are therefore essential for incoming-material inspection and reagent-mixing optimization at power plants.

In addition to limestone analysis, the instrument can also perform rapid determination of moisture, ash, and volatile matter in coal. Its multi-purpose design is particularly suitable for power plant fuel-management departments that need to analyze both limestone and coal quality.

Conventional chemical titration is time-consuming and requires chemical reagents. X-ray fluorescence methods generally provide qualitative or semi-quantitative analysis and may be less accurate when determining lighter elements such as calcium and magnesium. Thermogravimetric analysis is based on physical measurement principles and requires no chemical reagents. It offers convenient operation, accurate and traceable results, and a high level of automation. It can also reduce interference from calcium present in other chemical forms, providing results that are more directly relevant to desulfurization performance.

No. After the powdered samples have been weighed, the operator can start the test with a single command. No chemical reagents are required, and little or no sample pretreatment is needed. Up to 12 samples can be loaded at one time, after which the instrument automatically completes sample transfer, weighing, analysis, and unloading, allowing unattended operation.

Yes. Test data can be automatically saved and stored for traceability. Results can also be exported or uploaded to a LIMS, supporting the digital management and quality-traceability requirements of power plant fuel-management systems.
