FAQs

The SDBS200 is designed for the closed-cup flash point determination of paints, varnishes, paint binders, adhesives, solvents, petroleum products, and relevant solid hazardous-waste samples with flash points between −20°C and 100°C.

The instrument complies with GB/T 5208-2008, Determination of Flash Point — Rapid Equilibrium Closed-Cup Method.

The flash point measurement range is −20°C to 100°C.

Each determination requires a sample volume of 2.00 ± 0.05 mL. Accurate sample dispensing is important for obtaining reliable and repeatable results.

After the sample is added and the test is confirmed, the instrument maintains the sample at the target temperature for 60 seconds before performing the ignition operation.

The SDBS200 provides two operating modes:

  • Single Test Mode: The instrument performs one test at the specified expected flash point and then stops.
  • Search Mode: If no flash is detected, the instrument increases the target temperature by the configured interval and continues testing.

The temperature interval can be set between 0.5°C and 5°C. For example, when the interval is set to 1°C, the next test temperature will be 1°C higher if no flash is detected.

A flash-detection sensor monitors the temperature response produced by ignition. When the detected flash signal exceeds the configured sensitivity threshold, the instrument identifies the event as a flash point. Manual flash capture is also available.

Yes. The factory-default sensitivity value is 20. When a visible flash occurs but is not detected automatically, the sensitivity value may be reduced appropriately in the system settings.

Depending on the installed configuration, the instrument supports:

  • Gas-flame ignition
  • Electric ignition
  • Electrically ignited gas flame
  • Manual ignition control

The selected ignition method can be configured through the software.

The gas valve does not open immediately during temperature control. When the sample cup reaches the expected flash point, the instrument prompts the operator to add the sample. The gas valve opens only after the operator confirms that the sample has been added.

Yes. The instrument measures and displays the ambient atmospheric pressure. The measured flash point is automatically corrected to the value corresponding to standard atmospheric pressure.

The instrument automatically controls the copper sample cup to the specified test temperature. Temperature stability is confirmed when the measured temperature remains within ±0.3°C of the target for the configured stabilization period.

The default stabilization time is 20 seconds. This parameter may be adjusted in the system settings according to the test requirements, particularly when Search Mode is used.

For low-flash-point samples, the external refrigerated circulator must be filled with the specified coolant and connected to the instrument. The coolant temperature should normally be set approximately 5°C to 10°C below the expected flash point.

The manual specifies a 50% ethylene glycol solution with a freezing point of approximately −35°C.

Yes. An optional aluminum insert cup and sample-forming die can be used for relevant solid hazardous-waste samples. This configuration makes sample removal and cup cleaning easier after testing.

Completed test results are automatically saved in the historical database. Records include the automatic test number, sample ID, atmospheric pressure, expected flash point, corrected flash point, operator, and test time. Data can be exported in Excel format.

Yes. Selected test records can be uploaded to a Laboratory Information Management System. The LIMS upload address, device ID, and configuration ID can be entered in the system settings.

The sample cup must be cleaned thoroughly after every test. The instrument surface should be kept clean, the functional components should be checked periodically through the manual diagnostic interface, and the refrigeration system should not be switched on and off frequently because this may damage the compressor. The power supply and gas-cylinder valve must be shut off after operation.
